Josiah Quincy John Drew and Jason O’Rourke, a brace of friend and con men—the former white, the latter a Northern-born free blackness man— traveling from town to town in the pre–Civil War American Occident. In their cozenage, Josiah Quincy sell Jason into bondage, free him, and the two move on to the following town of chump... until a con travel incorrect lead Jason into existent danger.
