James Gunn has confirmed that The Batman: Part II and Part III will not be filmed back-to-back, clarifying the production plans for Matt Reeves’ Batman trilogy.

James Gunn has clarified that the second and third installments of Matt Reeves’ Batman series will not be filmed consecutively. The DC Studios co-head addressed speculation surrounding the production schedule, making it clear that the two movies will not enter production back-to-back.

The clarification comes as Reeves continues preparing The Batman: Part II, with the sequel moving forward after several delays. The film is expected to continue the story of Robert Pattinson’s version of Bruce Wayne and remain separate from Gunn’s interconnected DC Universe.

Gunn’s comments also provide an important update for fans who had expected the final two chapters of the trilogy to be produced close together. Instead, the filmmakers will take additional time between the two productions, meaning Part III will not immediately follow the filming of Part II.

The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled for release in October 2027 after previously being moved from its original 2026 date. The delay was partly connected to the development of the screenplay, while Reeves has continued working on the project with the goal of delivering the next chapter of his interpretation of Gotham City.
